Tennis instruction in the US runs from a certified teaching pro giving private lessons on a park court to full academies with fitness staff, boarding and tournament travel. Private lessons are priced per hour, semi-private and group clinics cost less per player, and most clubs run junior programs after school and adult drills in the evening. The USTA organizes the national rating (NTRP) and the adult and junior leagues most players join; the USPTA and PTR certify coaches. Summer camps take kids by the week or the day and usually include lunch and match play. Stadiums and event venues host college matches, USTA sanctioned tournaments and the occasional exhibition, with free or low-cost admission for most of them.

Small college basketball venue on the Cornell campus

Newman Arena is a nice basketball stadium located within Bartells Hall on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. It can fit as many as 4,472 people. The setup is similar to a high school gym as you have two sets of bleachers, mixed in with some chairback seats, facing each other across the court. The views from the bleachers or seats are good, but for comfort it is best to purchase a ticket for a chairback seat. The arena does have a very large video graphics board, which is great for seeing anything you missed and keeping stats in the game. There are a few concession stands in the arena. You will find one at the concourse area near the top of the bleachers and a few more near the entrances to the stadium. Prices at the stands are reasonable. Parking is located across from the arena. Tickets can be purchased online or at the stadium. Crowds here are usually small, but lively. Overall, it’s a nice place to see a game.
